Mission East is a Danish international relief and development organisation, working in Eastern Europe and Asia. Our aim is to deliver relief aid, to create and support long-term development projects and to empower local aid organisations to carry on the work independently. Making no racial, religious or political distinction between those in need, we aim to assist the most vulnerable.

Bringing aid to the refugees in Lebanon
Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, September 25, 2013.
The magnitude of the Syrian crisis is beyond comprehension. More than 2 million people have poured into the neighboring countries, fleeing the bombs, the killings and the raping. In total, over 6.8 million people are currently in need of aid.
In May, Mission East decided to support the work of our Alliance partner Medair, who have worked for a year to provide assistance to many of the thousands of refugees pouring into neighboring Lebanon and Jordan.
In Lebanon the work is focused on refugees living in the Bekaa Valley where the number of informal settlements now is reaching close to 300. For all of Lebanon, a tiny country of only 10,000 square kilometers, the expectation is that the refugee population will reach the 1 million mark before the end of the year – in a country of only 5 million people before the crisis started.
With more than 6,000 refugees fleeing Syria every single day, it is indeed difficult to keep up with the challenge of meeting even the most basic of needs: Shelter, blankets, mattresses, kitchen sets, hygiene kits and supplies for women and children.
The biggest constraint, however, is not the capacity of Medair and other great organisations working to help the refugees. The biggest constraint is funds!
And here, Mission East is committed to doing what we can to ensure that together with our partner we are helping as many of the refugees as we possibly can.

The refugee family in front of their new home. In Syria, the father Abdullah had a good job as a construction worker. He says: "We came with few belongings. Before I had a very good job. Now I don't even have clothing for the winter."
