Mission East is a Danish international relief and development organisation, working in Eastern Europe and Asia. Our aim is to deliver relief aid, to create and support long-term development projects and to empower local aid organisations to carry on the work independently. Making no racial, religious or political distinction between those in need, we aim to assist the most vulnerable.
Playcorner in Kuloli April 2017
Many children in Tajikistan are born with disabilities, mainly because of the many home births and marriages between relatives. Yet they are a rare sight in the village streets. As a remnant of Soviet thinking, disabilities are viewed as self-inflicted weaknesses and are a source of shame for the family. The children are hidden behind closed doors, get incomplete treatment, and only few attend school. To tackle this problem, Mission East has established two rehabilitation centres for children with disabilities in the towns Kulob and Penjakent. Children from the remote countryside can attend play-corners set up in village schools or health clinics, where they exercise and learn about their rights. Authorities as well as health and school professionals receive training on how to include children with disabilities in education, health care and the community in general.Read More
